The Life of Paul Marciano

Paul was born in 1952 in Debdou, Morocco. He is a philanthropist, investor, businessman, and a fashion designer. He is one of Guess' co-founder. He has won numerous black and white advertisements in the past. Initially operate together with his 3 brothers, Georges, Maurice, and Armand, the company today, together with its extensions lines are handled by Paul. Also, he is a huge benefactor to one of the biggest synagogues in L.A., Em Habanim.

 

Paul Marciano was raised by Jewish family in Marseilles, France together with his 3 brother. They resided in an apartment in a certain synagogue complex. In ages 10-15, Paul, together with his brothers, were member sof the Eclaireurs Israelites in France. This is a Jewish scouting group that was situated in their complex. At 15 years of age, Paul has had a motor accident with his friend. They collided with a car. He was told that he could never walk again so Paul spent around 7 months riding a wheelchair. After some time, Paul regained his strength but unfortunately, he was not accepted back to his school because of his very long time absence. Knowing this, Paul was not able to finish his schooling. He then travelled from France to Israel.

 

Paul worked in the family clothing business of his family which was MGA (Maurice, Georges, and Armand), with different stores in the French Riviera. Paul and his brothers visited California in 1977 and developed appreciation in the place. Right after the political fluctuations in France in the year 1981, the Marcianos closed their family business and migrated to the United States. Also, they operated MGA in Little Sta. Monica in the Beverly Hills during the early 1980s. The brother soon began the world's very famous company which is known as Guess.

 

In 1981, Paul and his brothers founded Guess. In 1983, they have sold 50% stake of Guess to Joseph Nakash in New York. They have a joint venture with this until in 1989, when the Californian court figured out that Nakash fraudulently lured Paul and his brother into that particular transaction. In the early 90s, Nakash settle for more than $60 million of $106 million escrowed profit and ownership of the brand 'Gasoline', however, Paul and his brothers got the brand 'Diesel'. Paul handles the company until 1993. In 2004, Maurice and Paul owned up to 70% of the 45 million shares.

 

In 2015, Paul stepped down from being Chief Executive Officer in Guess. He then became the Executive Chairman and Chief Creative Officer in Guess.
